Word of Mouth Conversations
About our speaker: Lily Clayton Hansen
Conversation drives author and interviewer Lily Clayton Hansen. One of the basics in life is communication, and in a digital age, Lily believes we need to re-prioritize it more than ever. Oftentimes referred to as the “people whisperer,” (one who lowers other’s walls and coaxes wisdom out of them) she finds nuggets of insight like no one else. Through her interviews, Lily reminds others to keep an open mind and heart.
In 2013, Lily relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, or rather the “It City.” In 2013, she began compiling interviews and portrait photography for her first book, Word of Mouth: Nashville Conversations. The coffee table book, praised locally and regionally upon its 2015 release, garnered regional press, endorsements by name brands, and partnerships with the Nashville Entrepreneur Center, Vanderbilt University and Nashville International Airport. The author has spoken about her project at arts organizations and universities across the country. Lily’s second book, Word of Mouth: More Conversations, released in 2018, was the first she published through her own boutique publishing company. She is currently sought after by other cities and companies to create custom coffee table books for them.
Following Word of Mouth: More Conversations, Lily was approached by HCA Healthcare, the largest hospital company in America, to create a custom book for their 50th anniversary that showcased stories with team members at all levels. The book was a hit and said to have brought unity to their 250,000-person organization. In 2019, Lily wrote 233-corporate bios for Gresham Smith, a global architecture and engineering firm who hired her specifically to humanize their company. Through it all, the writer still loves writing about real people who are passionate about what they do. She is grateful to be able to use her empathic nature and curiosity to ask the hard questions—in the kindest way possible. Lily wants to get to know others for who they are and show their best possible self. She has been described as “an artist in all sense of the word”— it just so happens that her favorite medium is the art of conversation. In the fall of 2019, Lily debuted her newest talk “Talking to Strangers Is My Self Care” at Tedx Nashville’s Women’s event.
